Responding to the Department of Transport awarding of £2.2 million to The West of England partnership for sustainable travel, Martin Garrett, chair of Transport for Greater Bristol (TfGB), said:
“This extra funding is great news and if spent well could really help Bristol become a safer, healthier and greener city.
“Better coordination between the councils and central government is one of the major missing ingredients in the way we tackle transport and other issues, and hopefully this money is a sign of even better cooperation to come.
“Bristol desperately needs not only better funding from central government but also greater freedom to make its own decisions, and 2016 must be the year when our city finally gets control over its own fate through devolution.”
