Delay to Portishead line “terrible news”, says Transport for Greater Bristol

Responding to reports that the scheduled development of the Portishead Line will be delayed, Martin Garrett, chair of Transport for Greater Bristol (TfGB), said:

“Bristol and the surrounding area are in desperate need of public transport solutions, and a delay to the opening of the Portishead branch line is terrible news.

“Solving local transport problems needs to be a far greater political and economic priority, as our city-region’s inertia on transport planning is damaging growth and reducing access to job opportunities.

“The delay further highlights the need for more power to be devolved to local government over strategic planning and transport, with a joint staff of planning professionals and local fund-raising powers ensuring the travel needs of local people are put first.”
